Taylor Swift Shares New Lyrics From "The Tortured Poets Department"

One thing about Taylor Swift is, she always leaves a trail of breadcrumbs.

As we anxiously await the April 19 release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, the singer made sure to give us a sneak peek, sharing lyrics from an upcoming track.

They read: “Crowd goes wild at her fingertips, half moonshine, full eclipse.” It is absolutely not a coincidence that she dropped these lines on Monday, the same day the solar eclipse took place, but we will have to wait 10 more days to discover their true meaning.

Swift’s reveal comes a couple of days after she released a five-part playlist on Apple Music composed of tracks from her own catalog and chronicling the five stages of heartbreak: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

On the denial playlist, the pop star includes hits like “Lavender Haze” and “Treacherous (Taylor’s Version).” She explained: “This is a list of songs about getting so caught up in the idea of something that you have a hard time seeing the red flags, possibly resulting in moments of denial and maybe a little bit of delusion. Results may vary.”

Swift announced the release of The Tortured Poets Department at the 2024 Grammys in February. “Okay, this is my 13th Grammy, which is my lucky number—I don’t know if I had ever told you that,” she joked onstage, accepting her award for Best Pop Vocal Album, for 2022’s Midnights. “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out on April 19. It’s called The Tortured Poets Department.”

The album is believed to be a musical journey through her stages of grief following the end of her relationship with ex Joe Alwyn—a theory that was only strengthened when Swift released the track list, which features song titles like “So Long, London,” “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys,” “But Daddy I Love Him,” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can),” “loml,” “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.”
