People Are Hating on Meghan Markle for Cradling Her Baby Bump

Meghan Markle's happily pregnant and like just about every other pregnant woman, she's touching her growing baby bump. Normal, right? Not according to Twitter users, who think that the Duchess of Sussex may be playing it up for the cameras. Today reports that some social media users think that Meghan's doing it too much — and it's veering into performance, not a pregnancy habit.

During her surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards, where Markle presented Givenchy designer Clare Waight Keller with an award, Meghan could be seen cradling her stomach. Some saw the appearance as a cute moment — especially since Waight Keller designed Markle's wedding dress and she often wears Givenchy designs to official royal appearances — but others saw it as overkill, especially when photos showed Meghan touching her stomach over and over.

"#Meghan Markle holding on to that bump like someone’s about to snatch it," one Twitter user wrote.

It's not a new phenomenon. Many users noted that Markle's been holding her stomach a lot, going way back to the royal tour earlier this year. Meghan and Prince Harry announced the newest addition to the royal family before the escapade.

However, Today adds that cradling the baby is actually a good thing. The medical journal Plos One published findings that stated: "When mothers rubbed their bellies, babies had more arm, head, and mouth movements than when the women did nothing or when they simply spoke to their child."

Of course, Twitter wasn't all negative. Several users supported Meghan and her affection for her growing bump.
